artists of the wall: community mural

i volunteered to help paint a section of the wall/bench at Loyola Beach and represent the Rogers Park Arts Alliance.

the design was something i put together based on the group's desire to have "symbols of the different arts disciplines represented." i feel like i've designed something like this on numerous occasions for murals and things for work in the past, so i can't say i was particularly excited by what i came up with. but it proved to be a good choice because
a. it was easy to paint
b. it was different looking from the other sections (mostly because we didn't really follow the theme of "expressions of light"...meh. but i started off thinking about stained glass)
c. everyone in the RPAA seems to like it! (the most important thing)

the weather was pretty great: just a little chilly and windy, but better than hot and blaring sun. i got several visitors, a good spot on the wall and we just missed the heavy rain. nick spent some time out there and got some photos.

after day 1

final results! and finished by another RPAA member, John-Michael

i had a nice time painting and i definitely want to "rent" my own bench for next year.

hopefully soon i'll be back to working on some of my own artwork in the next week or so. i've been on an inadvertent break after submitting my application and now a temporary job has been taking up a lot of space in my brain lately. but i see a clearing and have a decent idea of what's next to make.
